December 23, 2002 Agricultural Development Board Invests $2,000 in Trigg County Farmer's MarketThe Kentucky Agricultural Development Board, chaired by Governor Paul Patton, approved $2,000 in Trigg County Agricultural Development Funds for the community farmer's market. Renaissance on Main submitted a proposal to the Trigg County Agricultural Development Council requesting funds to aid in the development and continuation of a farmer's market in the Cadiz/Trigg County community. The continuation of the Cadiz market will allow local producers to market locally grown vegetables, fruits, and flowers while also providing a location for education programs in the community. Kentucky has made a historic effort to diversify away from tobacco production while revitalizing the farm economy by investing 50% of Kentucky's Master Settlement Agreement into the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund. To date Kentucky has invested over $98 million to an array of county, regional, and state projects designed to increase net farm income and create sustainable new farm-based business enterprises. The Trigg County farmer's market represents just one of the over 800 projects that have been funded through Agricultural Development Fund, since the inception of the program in January 2001. For more information regarding this project, contact Janene Walker at (270) 522-8756 or the Governor's Office of Agricultural Policy at (502) 564-4627. - 30 - |
