Kentucky Agricultural Relief Effort (K.A.R.E.)

Dear Friends:

Roger Thomas

I am writing this letter to provide you with information about the Kentucky Agricultural Relief Effort (K.A.R.E.) Program. Governor Beshear and the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board strengthened their commitment to farmers across the Commonwealth by creating the K.A.R.E. Program unveiled on March 13, 2008.

They recognize the devastation that the early freeze and drought had on our state in 2007 and the critical need for cost-share assistance. It was their forward thinking that brought the opportunity for this one-of-kind program. K.A.R.E. could not be possible without the dedication of the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service and the County Agricultural Development Councils who will both play a major role in the implementation of this state-wide program.

K.A.R.E. will utilize the infrastructure already created through the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board's existing programs. It will deliver cost-share assistance to our farmers allowing them to pursue on-farm improvements and investments that will help lessen the impact of future weather related disasters.

I hope all 120 counties in Kentucky understand the importance of this program to our farmers and take advantage of this one time opportunity. The K.A.R.E. Program does not effect your county's regularly budgeted 2008 county allocation. Below you will find the following information: K.A.R.E. Guidelines, K.A.R.E. Administrator Application, K.A.R.E. County Sheet, K.A.R.E. Priority Sheet, and the K.A.R.E. Reporting Form.

Thank you again for your assistance with the K.A.R.E. Program. If you need additional assistance please feel free to contact our office at (502) 564-4627.

Sincerely,

Roger Thomas

Executive Director
